Some factors to consider when selecting the appropriate cable tie are:
- Weathering
- Flammability
- Chemical
- Radiation
- Moisture
- Temperature extremes
Cable ties are available in 4 different materials:
Natural Nylon 6/6
Primarily used for indoor applications. Life expectancy in ultra violet light (sunlight) is 1-2 years*. The normal operating temperature range of nylon 6/6 is -10oC to 85oC.
Black Weather Resistant 6/6*
Primarily used in outdoor applications. Contains a uniform dispersion of 2% carbon black, providing UV resistance and increasing the cable life expectancy to 7-9 years*.
316 Stainless Steel
Primarily used in pero-chemical, marine, severe hostile environments, flame proof installations and applications of long-term external exposure or weathering where a life expectancy of > 20 years can be expected. Uncoated operating temperature is -45oC – 500oC.
Metal Detectable
Nylon tie with the inclusion of a metallic pigment which enables detection of even small cut-off sections of the tie by a standard metal detecting equipment. Primarily for the food processing industry, pharmaceutical industry and electrical cabling applications.
